Domestic [Jan. 31st, 2012|01:34 pm]
Taylor Made
Seriously blind sided by today's lecture.

Came for free food and got some serious food for thought. I'm thankful though, but emotional floored.

The police officer discussed situations of domestic violence and reminded us as medical students:
1. Do not look down your nose at someone in their bad situation
2. We all have been in bad situations and chose to stay for our own respective reasons - the key is to get out when it becomes life threatening
3. When someone comes to you confessing they have a problem and they need your help, provide all the help you can - no matter how many times they come back asking for help.

it's so easy to get spent and tired of folks but i need to be encouraged and patient with the people who recognize they have an issue and continuously seek help - even if they keep on stumbling in their fight to walk right...

today's lesson: to increase in compassion (sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others) and empathy (ability to understand and share the feelings of another).

And in this case - I can do both.

Lord, thank You that You love us and that You care for us. thank You that You provide all that we need and protect us. Lord, I pray that you be a stronghold and a comfort to those who suffer from domestic violence and those doing the violence. Be a source of healing to us and grow us in Your ways. I confess I can be short with those stuck in the cycle of sin. Please forgive me. Help us to live in freedom. Help us to be a help to others. May we be Your hands and Your feet and have a heart for what matters to You most. In Jesus name i pray, amen.

Philippians 2 : Light Bearers [May. 22nd, 2008|08:56 am]
Taylor Made
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning,

15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.

"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" because you know the extent of the preciousness of the gift of salvation and the horrid alternative.
"Do all things without grumbling or questioning" not because its all fun but because you know that u are doing it for the glory of God and that it is apart of his good plan.
Lord, i thank You that you have reminded me to keep positive spirits and a happy attitude in life when I go about doing Your business - not only in school work but also in personal relationships - You compel me to do the right thing with complaining or questioning You (like as to whether the other person deserves it). Thank You for the reminder that I may be the only 'Jesus' that person may ever in their life get a chance to see so I need to let my light shine 24/7 - especially in the dark places. Please Lord, I pray that my light will shine always and that I may have the correct spirit and attitude everyday in every way. In Jesus Name I pray, AMEN.

Philippians 2 :The Humbled and Exalted Christ [May. 21st, 2008|09:47 am]
Taylor Made
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus, thank You for faithfully humbling Yourself - in doing so I got to see the best example of how to live and I was given the gift of forgiveness and redemption. If it had not been for your humility, I would be lost Lord, so I thank You and I pray that I live a life of gratitude for Your awesome act of love and power. I look forward to the day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that You r Lord. In Jesus Name I pray, AMEN.

Philippians 2 : Unity through Humility [May. 20th, 2008|11:23 am]
Taylor Made
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,
2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Lord, may I please walk in a spirit of unity with my fellow Christians and think not only of myself but others when I act. No matter how big or small I may get the eyes of others, may I know and understand that we are one in Christ and if anything that I should consider them before considering myself (in accordance with Your will and Your ways).

This draws back to what Paul has built on in Philippians 1:27-30, telling the Philippians how to stand strong for the Lord against external conflicts. Now he tells them how to act against internal conflicts in the body of Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:3 says that God is the God of all comfort. There is no way He cannot comfort us and no circumstance beyond His comfort. But this is more than comfort; this is the comfort of love.

ii. The word comfort in this passage is the ancient Greek word paraklesis. The idea behind this word for comfort in the New Testament is always more than soothing sympathy. It has the idea of strengthening, of helping, of making strong. The idea behind this word is communicated by the Latin word for comfort (fortis), which also means “brave.” The love of God in our loves makes us strong and makes us brave. Of course there is comfort of love!

When what we do is not done out of love for others, but out of our own desire for “advancement” or “promotion” (selfish ambition)
Conceit is thinking too highly of one’s self, of having an excessive self-interest and self-preoccupation.

As we put away our selfish ambitions, our conceit, and our tendencies to be high-minded and self-absorbed, we will naturally have a greater concern for the interests and needs of others.
Paul doesn’t tell us that it is wrong to look out for our own interests, but that we should not only look out for our own interests.

PHILIPPIANS 1 [May. 19th, 2008|09:30 am]
Taylor Made
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Thank you Jesus. What a great testiment to Your faithfulness and goodness towards us.

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

This is a beauitful way to state "may your love for Christ not only result in the ability to discern but also the ability to CHOOSE what is morally BEST (not just good - but BEST). Reminds me of 1 COR 10:23 " All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." Lord, I pray this to be true for me & may i walk in the truth of Your word, In Jesus Name.

15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

Lord, I pray that the work I do is not of "selfish ambition", that Your will Your glory and Your purpose are the fuel of my dreams and my work. I pray that I preach Christ (through my life and through my words) that I do it in love and not out of strife or envy - I pray that You grant me a heart that truly desires and does love as You love - please may I see life through Your lenses Lord. May I not be as one who does honorable work with dishonorable intentions - from inside out may You make me righteous, may You make me pure and upright in Your sight and before men so that they may glorify You.

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Lord, I pray this may be true for me to the uttermost, in Jesus Name.

27 Only let your conversation be as it becomes the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
29 For to you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Lord, I pray that I may conduct myself in manner that is worthy of the gospel of Christ and that I may see You in my suffering and be encouraged and follow Your great example,in Jesus Name I pray.

Romans 2 [May. 8th, 2008|07:00 am]
Taylor Made
1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.
2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who do such things.

Grant grace, not judgement - leave God to do His job.

3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who do such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?
4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

Do not mock God's kindness for weakness - if you sin AND you do NOT repent and you do not see immediate consequences for your actions rejoice not in that "God forgot" or that "God will forget" for time is NOTHING in God's eyes. In 1 Sam 15, God gave the Amelikites 400 years to repent, but when there time came, His judgment was to destroy them all (the same judgment He decided upon on the day of this sin.) Lord, I pray that I properly use the time and grace You have given me to repent and to live for You.

6 He will render to each one according to his works:
7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;
8 but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.
9 There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek,
10 but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek.
11 For God shows no partiality.

This is why motives are so important - note how the judgments are given out based on what the men SEEK, "themselves" or " glory, honor, and immortality." Lord, I pray that that you reveal every wicked way in me and lead in the path everlasting. Please, guide me and prune me - ensure that I may have proper motives when serving You.

12 For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.
13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.
14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them
16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

For goodie-two shoes and the good person, being good isnt good enough. When it comes down to it, we all know, to some degree, the good that we should do, but without belief in Jesus Christ, all the bad that we "slipped up" or purposefully done still prepares the noose for us to hanged when we stand before the judge. And though by good works our faith is perfected and proven to be genuine and real, there is no amount of good works can wash away your sins, only the blood of Jesus can do that. Faith leads to salvation, not good works, but our faith is proven by our good works. (James 3) Lord, help me to know this is real and to walk in the truth of Your word.

17 But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God
18 and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law;
19 and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—
21 you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal?
22 You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law.
24 For, as it is written, The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.

Knowledge of God's word alone will not save you and you can not fully claim to believe Jesus Christ is king and treat He and his commands as everyday rubbish and "suggestions." Hypocrisy is why Christ is mocked today, because the people who are called to be His look-alikes look nothing like Him, at least not consistently and not even after they are corrected - if You desire to see Christ gloried (as is the purpose of every Christian), then represent Him well. Lord, help me to follow You in complete obedience so that I may honor You fully. I don't want to pick and choose what to follow - allow me to be right in Your sight.

25 For circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision.
26 So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
27 Then he who is physically uncircumcised but keeps the law will condemn you who have the written code and circumcision but break the law.
28 For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical.
29 But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

This is encouraging to me, because it lets me know that God is so much more concerned with my heart than my appearance and outward body marking of being a Christian, No circumcision - thats ok, no gold cross - thats fine; if in your heart (and the out of the abundance of the heart does the mouth speak and the person walks) God has performed the surgery to remove those bad things (that allowed you to so easily and without a speck of conscious to act in a way that was so deeply pitted against Him), then your circumcision is as real as it gets.

ROMANS 1 [May. 1st, 2008|09:09 am]
Taylor Made
5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
I see an exchange going on here, " grace and apostleship" given for "obedience" - as if those are extra gifts....but this doesnt shake my belief that "salvation" is given in exchange for "faith in Christ alone."

7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints
I am a saint, a holy person - i need to remember that

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: ......
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
scary though - to know of Him and yet still choose not to glorify Him and God allowing us to fully choose the sin our flesh desires - Lord please help me to repent of my evil ways; allow me to be humble in my thoughts and clean in my heart; i don't want sin or its ways, i want You Lord 110%

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
wow....i need to check what i am complacent/accepting of right now today - because it can think of a few sins i let slidefrom time to time. Lord, i need You to give me a heart after You and Your will - give me a passion for righteousness and a sincere digust for sin (not the sinner but the sin) - please Lord, i dont want to b one of these people, thats not who i desire to become - cleanse me and restore me Lord, have me walk in daily repentence with a sincere and humble and clean heart for You and You alone.

Now this is just funny.... [Oct. 7th, 2006|08:08 am]
Taylor Made
In Touch Daily Devotional
by Dr. Charles Stanley

October 07, 2006 Defending Against Temptation James 4:7-8

"Temptation never completely goes away. The intensity and form of what tempts us may change with time and spiritual maturity. But as long as we’re in these earthly bodies, we will never be entirely free of it. That’s why we must learn to build a defense against its pull.

The first step to defeating temptation is trusting that the Lord is in control. Believe that He will limit temptation to what you can handle through His strength. Before a tempting thought even enters our head, be determined to resist with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Second, we need to be proactive. We need to identify weaknesses—those areas of our life where we are easily persuaded to sin. Likewise, it is helpful to recognize the conditions under which we are more prone to give in. Satan prefers to attack when believers are hungry, angry, lonely, or tired (H.A.L.T.).When facing temptation, we usually have little time to decide on our response. Once we are already feeling stress, the path between fantasizing and doing is particularly short.

The third step is training our mind to focus on the big picture rather than the immediate pleasure. The following four questions can help us make wise choices: Is this a violation of God’s Word? What are the consequences? Am I prepared to pay that price? Is there a right way to meet this desire?

We can’t be totally free from temptation, but we can defend against it. Begin now. Make yourself mentally and emotionally ready for the next time you’re tempted. Preparation helps build a barrier of protection around your mind and heart."

Its like He heard me before I even opened my mouth. God is good. Yesterday He sent me a message on "Don't Rush", be still during those times of much needed patience and uneasiness. Now, I am getting a message on temptation. I was just about to reach out to my sister the other day and ask for her help on temptation. I slipped up and got a b/f again :p and now life isnt as easy as it used to be. I want him. And the statement is a double edged sword; on one hand it nice to have an appealing b/f, on the other, I rather not have to deal with the desire. But I gain some comfort in the fact that regardless of the situation(or the man) some degree of temptation will be involved; so the fact that I want my b/f doesnt mean something is wrong with me or evil about me or our relationship; it just means I am human.
But in being human, that means I need some serious help from You, oh God. Lord I need help really recognizing that in You I have the power to walk away. I need You Lord to help me be strong and to prevent situations where I am HALT to the point that it alters my decision making process/my Christian walk. Lord I need you to please help me see the big picture and find healthy ways to fullfill my desire. Not just for my sake, but for the sake of Your name Lord, for You I live, so its Yours ways I desire to exemplify. Lord help me to live for You. Help me to glorify You.
Lord, this article brought up another interesting point "asking if there is a helathy way to fullfill this desire...."...
